1. Hair Removal
Home Grooming Treatments for Women unwanted hair is a common grooming concern among women. Whether it’s trimming your eyebrows, waxing your lip or armpits or plucking stray chin hairs and peach fuzz (a.k.a vellus hairs), most women have a method of removing unwanted hair that they prefer.
Shaving is the most common and easy at-home hair removal method, which cuts unwanted hair off at the surface of your skin. However, shaving only lasts for a few days before hair regrowth is noticeable.
Compared to shaving, laser and light-based treatments are more permanent hair removal methods. Laser and light-based treatments target the pigmentation of the hair follicle to permanently disable it from growing, which can take several sessions to see results. It’s important to patch-test any laser or light-based treatments before trying them at home. They can cause burning, stinging and peeling, so make sure to do a test spot on your skin before starting treatment. Then, when you’re ready to start the process, you can purchase an at-home laser device.
2. Skin Care
The skin is the body’s biggest organ and it can be very confusing to figure out how to care for it. Even experts admit that finding the right products can be a long journey of trial and error.
Some grooming treatments are quick and easy to do in the comfort of home. Tweezing eyebrows and tinting are two simple beauty treatments that can make a huge difference in appearance. Another quick and effective skin treatment is a face mask.
Another at-home beauty tool is a jade roller, which is basically a paint roller for your face. It stimulates blood flow and decreases puffiness and fine lines.
Lastly, dermarolling is an at-home device that uses needles to prick the skin in order to resurface the complexion. While it is not something I recommend, some clients do find it beneficial. However, it can also be quite painful and should only be done by a trained professional. It is also very important to not exfoliate after this treatment because it can cause redness and sensitivity.
3. Nail Care
A manicure and pedicure are not just for looking pretty; they help with nail health. The process of exfoliating, moisturizing and shaping nails helps prevent nail fungus and ingrown toenails. Plus, getting a manicure regularly means less foot and fingernail odor because trimming and cleaning your nails help reduce bacteria build-up.
Keeping your nails short is good for your nails and skin, but you also want to be sure to keep them clean by using an acetone-free polish remover and washing your hands often. It’s important to scrub your nails with a natural cleanser that doesn’t contain harsh, drying chemicals.
Another thing to avoid is over-zealous cleaning under the nails, whether by you or your manicurist. Rubbing hard at the base of your nail or pushing back cuticles with pointy tools opens up your nails to infection. Soak your hands in warm water (when you’re scrubbing or doing your nails) to soften the skin and make it easier to groom them.
